Summary Module 2: Forest Management for Bioenergy Production

This module presented information on forest management focused primarily on bioenergy products. You have learned that forest management for bioenergy production can be incorporated into your forest management plan and that there are specific management practices that are more favorable for bioenergy production. The most favorable silvicultural practices for bioenergy production depend on:

  • management goals,
  • forest composition, and
  • topography.

You have also learned that there are other aspects to consider when managing your forest for bioenergy production. Some things to consider are:

  • biological and environmental sustainability,
  • designing low impact operations, and
  • integrating bioenergy harvesting with silviculture.

Remember, it is important to define the goals of management in order to develop silvicultural plans compatible with these goals and that providing biomass for bioenergy can often assist landowners in achieving their major objectives.

Ask yourself.... when and where bioenergy production could be integrated into your goals and objectives, and what steps you could take to ensure the long-term sustainability of your forest ecosystem.

You have successfully completed all the units in module 2: Forest Management for Bioenergy Production.
