Unit 2: Environmental Components Impacted by Woody Biomass              Production
Introduction
Forests serve many roles including timber production, regulation of the water supply, and as locations for recreation. In order to maintain these multiple roles, it is important that the forests are managed in a sustainable manner that takes into consideration key environmental factors. These factors include soils, water, and biodiversity. These factors are key to the way in which many view the forests. Soils maintain the productivity of the forests for timber production, water from the forest provides drinking water and recreation for many, and forest biodiversity enhances the recreational benefits for many individuals.   Abrams Creek in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park
