Part 1: Laying the Groundwork for Range Monitoring
Trend Monitoring
Depending on who you talk to or which resource you read, you
will see there are several different types of rangeland monitoring.
Trend monitoring is the documentation of change over time in vegetation
or other rangeland resource attributes. This type of monitoring
requires repeated measurements of the same attributes at the same
location. Information collected is then used to determine if there
is progress toward pre-established management objectives.
Decisions
are made to adjust management practices based on whether or not
these objectives are being met.
In this learning module, trend monitoring is known simply as “monitoring.”
