Part 6: Choosing Where to Monitor

Site Selection Criteria

Spending time to select the best sites for monitoring can greatly improve the quality of your monitoring program. When selecting sites you should consider:

 

  • Biotic (or living) factors such as plant communities, livestock, and wildlife habitat

  • Abiotic (or non-living) factors such as soil, topography, watershed patterns, and climate

  • Operational factors such as pasture size and period of use

  • Historical land uses
