Streams and Watersheds - Summary

In this lesson we've focused on streams, defined as physical channels and the water which flows through them. In reality, the stream and the riparian area beside it are so intertwined that we cannot effectively address either apart from the other. This relationship will become obvious in the next lesson, where we will shift our emphasis to the riparian area.

As we consider how riparian areas function, you will recognize the importance of understanding stream mechanics. One objective of this course is to help you understand why a functioning riparian area is a prerequisite for a healthy stream and vice versa.
