Part 5: Setting Realistic Objectives and Goals
The Sustainability
of the Vegetative Resource
The sustainability of the rangeland resources requires that
management objectives are consistent with what the land is ultimately
capable of producing. And, to the extent possible, these objectives
need to meet the expectations of all legitimate stakeholders.
Limitations on sustainability may include
- Environmental constraints
- Societal expectations
- Economic parameters
- Legal requirements
- Technological limitations
The aim is to have managers and stakeholders agree on the site-specific
description of the desired land and kind and amount of vegetation
that can be produced while considering economic, legal, and technological
limitations.
