       Stand conditions: This loblolly
pine plantation was growing in Pittsylvania County, Virginia on
an average to good site. Soils here are predominately red clay. The
original planting density was likely 8 x 10 feet (around 544 trees
per acre). Mortality, fire, and self-thinning leave
us with a fairly dense 432 trees per acre. The lack of hardwoods on
this site indicates good weed control at stand establishment and an

point sample within the harvested stand. Monetary data is based on 2003
dollars and timber values. Actual payments to landowners are generally
50% of gross payments, but vary widely with distance to mills, terrain,
        harvest size, etc. |
