Regeneration

We will begin the discussion of management by looking at techniques that could be used to encourage regeneration, or establishment of pine within your existing forest.The emphasis here is not harvesting. In regeneration, the goal of cutting mature trees is to make room for seedlings in the forest understory. These seedlings are a new age class and represent the future forest.

Many of the pine species that occur throughout the southeast are adaptable to a variety of site conditions. This adaptability means that there are multiple strategies available to regenerate pine.
