The first portion of this module, examines the global distribution of woody biomass, and then explains the economic, environmental and energy-related benefits of bioenergy.  In the second portion of this module you will become familiar with the forest types of the southern U.S.

In this module you will become familiar with the steps in the process of harvesting woody biomass from the forest, from the processing stage to transport and delivery. This module describes several different approaches to harvesting woody biomass and helps the landowner to decide which approaches may fit their individual operations.

Bioenergy has the potential to generate real benefits to the environment—if we are conscious of producing it in a sustainable way.  This module focuses on environmental considerations in bioenergy production.

This module explains the major elements that are influencing the cost competitiveness of bioenergy production.  Users of this module will understand how production costs, competing sources of energy, and carbon credits all influence the profitability of using woody biomass to produce bioenergy.

The Biomass Utilization module takes a closer look at the process of converting woody biomass from a raw material into bioenergy and bio- based products.
