Rangeland Monitoring in Western Uplands

Part 9: Collecting Monitoring Data

Composition

Composition is the proportion of various plant species in relation to the total in a given area. This is a calculated attribute based on data for production, cover, and density collected at monitoring sites.

Composition is calculated using the individual values of density, weight, and cover for a species or group of species. These values are divided by the total values for the entire plant population, which includes estimates of all plant species.
