This module presented information on using woody biomass as a feedstock to produce electricity, heat, steam, transportation fuels, chemicals, and materials. In summary, there are two major technological processes used to convert woody biomass into any given product type. These are bio-chemical and thermochemical. The specific process used depends on a variety of properties, particularly moisture content, chemical composition, energy content, and ash content, of a given woody biomass feedstock.
