Unit 3:  Product Types

Introduction

As a feedstock, woody biomass can be used to create a number of different products. Electricity and industrial process heat and steam are perhaps the most common product currently produced using woody biomass feedstock.  However, numerous opportunities are emerging to expand industrial needs through the production and processing of biological materials. Today's bio-based products include commodity and specialty chemicals, transportation fuels, and bio-based materials. 

 

This unit is comprised of five lessons.  The first lesson describes who uses bioenergy.  Subsequent lessons describe, in more detail, the four major product types resulting from woody biomass feedstocks.
