Children’s Classroom Activities

Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Learning Landscapes Invasive Species

Includes formal materials for teachers and students, as well as activities for individual explorations about invasive species, in general. Also, included are some online activities for kids to try in the classroom. Detailed information about lesson plans and necessary materials are often detailed.

 

Aliens In Your Neighborhood - Invasive Species and the National Parks

This curriculum is aimed at middle school students and details how you can incorporate weeds education as a part of your school's curriculum. This is not a curriculum about weeds, but instead provides a model for integrating a theme, as well as expanding it to multiple grade levels and subjects (math, language arts, social studies, art, etc.).

Montana’s War on Weeds Education Curriculum

This website includes many links to lesson ideas, detailed plans, and links to additional resources for specific assignments.

This web site offers ample resources for just about any grade level. Included are detailed lesson plans, materials needed, advanced planning, and other information. Many lesson plans and handouts are available in PDF format.

Educational outreach resources available for specific regions, counties, communities, school, or states about invasive weeds. Includes brochures, handouts, videos, or resource guides. Many projects for grades K-12.

 

Cornell Environmental Inquiry Program, Invasion Ecology

Developed for older high school students who are interested in doing real scientific research. They will learn how biology and ecology relate to invasive plants and what they can do to fight weeds.

 

Educational Resources from the National Invasive Species Information Center

Contains links to many resources for K-12 teachers on all types of invasive species, including plants. These resources are from federal, state, and private sources.

 

A Kid's Journey to Understanding Weeds

This curriculum was developed by the Center for Invasive Plant Management and is intended for children in or around the 3rd grade. Includes pictures, classroom activities, and a CD-ROM.

A website for the Utah Weed Awareness Campaign, and the Utah Weed Awareness Committee that includes activities for students and resources for teachers at the K-12 level. Includes links to original materials as well as links to educational materials form USDA, National Park Service, and BLM.

 

Project Learning Tree

Provides many environmental education program for educators and students in PreK-grade 12, including lessons about invasive plants. PLT is a program of the American Forest Foundation.
