Wildlife Assets - Introduction

There are several ways landowners can make wildlife a positive part of an operation. Many states offer habitat improvement and/or land access programs. In states like South Dakota, 90% of the state is privately owned. As a result, South Dakota's Department of Game, Fish and Parks focuses a lot of attention on managing wildlife and their habitats on private land. Oklahoma has several landowner incentive programs to work with landowners to conserve, enhance and/or restore habitats. Montana has a block management program that provides economic incentives to landowners who allow public hunting on their ranches.
