Playa wetlands are shallow depressions that are formed in arid and semiarid environments throughout the world and are the low point within an individual watershed. Playa wetlands are seasonally and temporarily flooded wetlands that are often dominated by emergent plant species. Most playa wetlands are less than 30 acres in size, are generally circular, and have a relatively flat bottom.
