Playa wetlands

Distribution page 3 of 7

Most playa wetlands occur in the Southern Great Plains of the United States, which is one of the most intensively cultivated regions in the world. Playa wetlands are most abundant in southeastern Colorado, southwestern Kansas, western Texas, the Oklahoma Panhandle, and eastern New Mexico. However, playa wetlands also occur into northwestern Kansas, northeastern Colorado, eastern Wyoming, and western Nebraska. The exact number of playa wetlands is difficult to estimate, but most estimates are in the 25,000 to 26,000 range.
