Arrowhead
Other names: duckpotato, wapato
Description: An aquatic plant distinguished by large,
arrow-shaped, glossy leaves that stand above the water
on triangular stalks. The early, submerged leaves
are ribbonlike. Stem with flowers rises directly
from the root, with lower flowers generally containing
seeds. Root tubers are size of a small walnut and
grow just below the surface of the mud.
Wildlife value: Ducks eat seeds and tubers if not too big
or grow too deeply in mud.
