Partridge
pea
Description: Annual or perennial legume with tiny
leaflets in paired rows. Their showy yellow, irregular
flowers bloom from May to September. Their flattened
pods split and twist to release seeds.
Wildlife value: Seeds are an important food source
for bobwhites. These plants are also of moderate value
to white-tailed deer. They serve as a larval food source
for a number of butterflies including the Little Yellow and
Orange Sulfur butterflies. |
