Description: grass-like perennial with a long stem
and thin, long tapering leaves. Gold and/or brown
spiked flowers grow in a cluster of 3 to 10 at the end
of a stem. Round tubers grow underground.
Wildlife value: In wet areas, seeds are important waterfowl
food. Tubers are relished by wild hogs, raccoon, and
wild turkey. |
